Iconique Excess: In Here Life Is Beautiful

Iconique’s creative achievements were shown at the Boijmans Museum in Rotterdam, The Netherlands in the summer of the year 2005. The best of 5 years Iconique appeared as a large digital projection. It could be experienced like never before... Visitors will be allowed to step into the glitzy fashion fanfare that Joost van Gorsel creates with Iconique.com.

Apart from the projection, Iconique’s part in the exhibit also featured four large window displays of 2.5 by 2.5 meters each communicating a world of decadence, iconism and cheerfulness. The displays, colored in cyan, magenta, yellow and black -- the four printing colors and a reference to the ‘concept’ of a traditional magazine -- featured international fashion designers and represented the theme ‘Excess: in here life is beautiful’...  Van Gorsel wanted to focus on the thin line between fashion as art and fashion as being an art of living: a representation of a personal image. One could discover traces of gold confetti, a small tribute to iconic  writer Brett Easton Ellis: “Confetti is a useless product, its only purpose is to create a moment of frivolity, a moment of excess.” Fashion and accessories were shown by designers such as Rei Kawakubo for Comme des Garçons, Nicolas Ghesquière for Balenciaga, Christopher Bailey for Burberry Prorsum, Basso & Brooke, Coco de Mer and Cartier Jewelry, while hair stylist Pieter Roodhorst provided the mannequins with glamorous, edgy looks.

“For Joost van Gorsel cosmopolitan Rotterdam is a kind of springboard to the world of even greater glamour and luxury. He is the intellectual and artistic mind behind the online magazine iconique.com, a window on the glitzy world of high fashion and styling. In just five years this magazine has grown into an international state-of-the-art podium for fashion.” Thimo te Duits, curator of Boijmans Museum (2005)
